The project promoter is the Municipality of Ancient Olympia, subject to National law, the Project is implemented in partnership with the Norwegian Institute of Athens.
The purpose of the Project is to restore areas affected by forest fires in Ancient Olympia and to improve access to Floka Theatre, with the overall objective of restoration of the ecosystem ravaged by forest fire in Greece.
Project’s work packages:
1. Preparatory works and organization of public tenders for the technical consultants and contractors.
After signing the agreement with the EEA, the Municipality of Ancient Olympia will initiate the processes required to conduct the tender for the Technical Consultant. Technical Consultant responsibilities will include the supervision and final audit of the required studies for the works and the revision of these. The technical consultant will support the Municipality for preparing the tender documents and the procedures for work contracts, support for the selection of the contractors, as well as for the supervision of contractor’s work. Also the consultant will be in charge of the reports to Focal Point.
2. Preparation and implementation of rehabilitation works
The activity comprises the following actions: preparation of the ground, development of new forestall streets or improvement of the already existing ones, anti-corrosive and flood- preventing works in the area, flood-preventing works in Kladeos River.
3. Construction and modernization works for cultural enhancement
These works include: a) improvement of the surrounding area of floka theatre incuding works of paving, works for the accessibility of the Theatre for the disabled people and modernization of elctromechanical equipment and b) aesthetic enhancement of the route from Ancient Olympia to Floka.
4. Project management and publicity
This activity concerns the overall management of the project and the implementation of the publicity plan. The Municipality of Ancient Olympia will be responsible for supervision the whole project and taking the final decisions with the support of the Technical consultant.
